Pricing
Plumbing Software Pricing: From DIY to Enterprise Systems
The monthly price on a software website rarely tells you the whole story.
You might pay for additional technicians, texting, onboarding, reporting, storage, or integrations. Building your own system has costs too, especially your time.
For transparency, I co-own a plumbing business with my brother and am involved in building ServicePlumber. I think owners deserve a useful comparison of all their options.
Building it yourself
You can start with a simple customer database, calendar, job form, and reminder system.
The advantage is control. You build around the way you work.
The responsibility is keeping it working. Someone must handle backups, permissions, troubleshooting, and updates.
A hypothetical example: $50 a month in tools plus 40 hours building your system. If you value your time at $50 an hour, that is $2,000 in labor before maintenance.
That may be a worthwhile investment. Just include your time when comparing costs.
Monthly subscriptions
Subscriptions can help you get started quickly without becoming a developer.
Some charge a flat rate. Others charge per user, technician, location, or feature package.
A hypothetical $100-per-user plan costs $600 a month for six users. Find out whether office staff, owners, and occasional users count.
Ask what happens when you need more messages, storage, or integrations.
Premium and enterprise systems
Larger companies may need complex dispatching, multiple locations, inventory, detailed reporting, and employee permissions.
Those capabilities can justify a substantial investment.
These are hypothetical budgets, not quotes from specific vendors.
A $2,000 monthly platform with $5,000 setup costs $29,000 in the first year.
A $5,000 monthly platform with $15,000 setup costs $75,000 in the first year.
A $10,000 monthly software and managed marketing package with $20,000 setup costs $140,000 in the first year.
The marketing package includes services beyond software, so it is not directly comparable to a software subscription. These examples exclude advertising spend, processing fees, taxes, and your staff’s time.
Custom development
Custom software can fit your business closely, but delivery is only the beginning.
Ask who owns the code, who maintains it, and whether another developer could take over.
As a hypothetical example, a $30,000 build plus $500 monthly support costs $36,000 in the first year.
What to compare
Add setup, subscriptions, add-ons, usage charges, and implementation time.
Then measure the benefit. Does it reduce paperwork? Prevent missed leads? Improve scheduling? Help you collect faster?
What are you using, what does it actually cost, and what surprised you after signing up?
Include your team size and whether marketing is included so others can make a useful comparison.
ServicePlumber publishes its own prices on the plans page. Those prices are separate from the hypothetical examples above.
See it on a sample shop.
These guides are here so you can compare with a clear head. The demo uses sample data. The plans page shows our prices.
